Amid heightened scrutiny and growing investigations into his five-months-young term, President Donald Trump’s approval ratings remain steady in a Pew poll.

Trump’s approval rating stands at 39 percent, according to a new Pew Research Center survey released Tuesday. The rating is unchanged from previous surveys, as 39 percent of Americans approved of Trump’s presidency in April and February.

Also unchanged in the new survey are the divisions across gender, race and ethnicity, age and education when it comes to Trump’s support. Half of whites approve of the job Trump has done. This was the only major demographic group to have more participants approve than disapprove of the president’s job. Blacks and Hispanics disapproved of Trump at rates of 88 and 72 percent, respectively.

Women gave Trump negative job ratings at a much higher margin, with 60 percent disapproving compared to 49 percent among men. The educational divide also persisted, as two-thirds of Americans with a college degree disapproved of the job Trump is doing. Among adults without a four-year degree, 42 percent approve and 50 percent disapprove.

Americans continue to also be critical of Democrats and Republicans. Just 40 percent view the Republican Party favorably, and 44 percent view Democrats favorably. Less than half of Americans said either party has high ethical standards.

More respondents said the Democratic Party “cares about the middle class,” (57 percent) compared to Republicans. Though slightly more said the Republican Party is “too extreme,” the share saying Democrats are too extreme has risen from 37 percent to 45 percent over the past year.

Both parties’ favorability ratings were more negative than positive, and less than half of Americans said either party has high ethical standards.

The Pew Research Center poll surveyed 2.504 adults from June 8-18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.
